The Association

In May 1985 founded the Association of Parents and Friends of Children Heart Patients.The reason that pushed us to the founding of the Association is the large number of children suffering from congenital heart disease. Our aim is to provide every kind of assistance, sympathy, care and effort to solve the problems of children with heart disease, to inform and enlighten the public, organizing seminars and generally that could help the heart patient children and their families, the which according to official figures are now 33% of total heart disease in Cyprus.

Objectives of the Association

1. The creation of a center or centers for medical monitoring, manned with the appropriate medical personnel and equipped with appropriate equipment.
2. The mission of all children who need surgery to specialized medical centers abroad.
3. Informing and educating the public, the organization of seminars with invited eminent doctors from Cyprus and abroad.
4. The financial assistance and psychological support to any member who goes for cardiac surgery the child abroad.
5. Help with job placement.

Stations and route of the link

Since its establishment until today, the Association is on the side of the heart disease of children, adolescents and adults with congenital heart disease and their families by offering whatever help, support and guidance to its full potential.

1985: In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the pediatric cardiologist to achieve a timely transition of children to appropriate medical centers abroad, mostly in the United Kingdom.

1988: In cooperation with the Cypriot community in London, establishing the link Merciful. The Merciful London provide every assistance to our members including: Receipt of children and their families from the airport and transport to medical centers / clinics, interpreter, economic and psychological support where needed.

1992: The Association acquires own office in Nicosia to better serve our members near the Makarios Hospital.

1998: Co-sponsored by the Association of Nicosia Savings translates and publishes the book - A Practical Guide for Parents and victims on the congenital heart disease.

2001: The heart patient children after concerted actions of the Association of Medical Card holders become A to receive the full free medical treatment in government hospitals,.

2002: The Association of seeing the various problems faced by parents and victims support center generates and employs sociology, psychological and social support of its members.

2002: Introduced the student sponsorship Students victims of our members and in cooperation with colleges - University of Cyprus students are given scholarships.

2003: After several attempts of the Association worked out sponsors for the equipment of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Makarios Hospital started its operation.

1985-2012: The League in 27 years of operation has provided financial assistance to more than 2000 families who went abroad for cardiac surgery. Every Easter and Christmas, the Association provides financial assistance to needy families of our members. Sponsored by the Association purchased medical equipment worth more than EUR 300.000.00 Makarios Hospital.

Public information campaign

The association since 2001 has its own website on the internet (www.pediheart.org.cy) and purpose of creation is:

• Informing and educating the public about congenital heart disease.
• The awareness of all those who have Internet access.
• Informing the public about the events that make the link.
• Contact with other similar institutions abroad.
• Connect with other institutions and organizations aimed at the funding for research (prenatal examination, heredity, epidemiological research, etc.)

With the slogan "DO NOT LEAVE THE HOPE GOES OUT" each of us in the way of relief to come and present and the future of children heart patients!
